About Us

Our Story

How a love for animals and community became something bigger.

Why Woe Doggie Exists

Founded in 2021 by Aerin Young, Woe Doggie it started with a simple realization: when people go through a crisis — a sudden hospitalization, a serious diagnosis, an accident — one of their biggest worries is often their pet. Who's going to walk them? Feed them? Make sure they feel safe and loved?

On Salt Spring Island, we look out for each other. But sometimes people don't know who to ask, or they don't want to be a burden. Woe Doggie was created to fill that gap — to be the safety net for pet owners who are going through the hardest moments of their lives.

Whether it's a few days of dog walking during a hospital stay, emergency fostering after an accident, or ongoing support during hospice care, we're here to make sure your pet is cared for so you can focus on healing.

What Drives Us

Our Mission & Values

🤝

Community First

We believe in the power of neighbours helping neighbours. Salt Spring Island is our home, and taking care of each other — pets included — is what community means.

💛

Compassion Without Judgment

Life happens. We don't ask why you need help — we just show up. Everyone deserves support during difficult times, and so does every pet.

🐕

Every Pet Matters

Pets are family. When their owners can't be there, we make sure they still get the walks, the belly rubs, the routine, and the love they need.

🌱

Growing With Purpose

We're starting small and doing things right. As our volunteer base and resources grow, so will the families and pets we can support — always with care and intention.
